413 Elite Foundation’s President Sir Charles brought history to life through a powerful public and virtual reading of Frederick Douglass’ landmark speech, “What to the Slave Is the Fourth of July?” This event engaged 40+ students and adults in a meaningful act of civic reflection, community unity, and historical literacy.

Held simultaneously in public spaces and online, the gathering created a shared stage where voices from diverse backgrounds could rise together in honor of Douglass’ legacy. From middle school students to retired educators, participants examined the past to ignite conversation about freedom, justice, and their relevance today.

Impact at a Glance:

• 40+ Total Participants: Youth, parents, educators, and community leaders joined in.

Beyond the words, the experience stirred emotion and inspiration. One student shared, “Douglass made me feel like I have a voice, not just in sports, but in what I stand for.” Another participant described it as “a moment of connection between history and our hope for the future.”
